This summer season, new restaurants and places have opened to welcome new patrons. Here’s a list of a few spots you should explore in the coming weeks!
Located in the Oak Creek Village shopping center, Zweli's is family-owned, authentic African cuisine based on the chef's eclectic palate. The dishes revolve around their mouthwatering piri piri chicken, paired with flavorful vegan and vegetarian sides. The veggie and beef samosas, curried cabbage, and shareable platters are curated by picking the freshest produce and working alongside local farmers.
Late night pizza and drinks are now served at the newly open and eagerly anticipated eatery Hutchins Garage, a 3,200 square foot full-service bar serving Grandma-style pizza, salads, and sandwiches, as well as a full bar and extensive wine list.
Tamale Factory and Tequila Bar
The owners of the Tamale Factory and Tequila Bar have created a relaxed, authentic atmosphere in their newly open Mexican restaurant and bar in Durham. It boasts handmade tamales, fresh lime margaritas, seasonal cocktails, and delicious sangrias among other slow simmered specialties made fresh daily.
Foster Street Coffee
This local coffee shop located on the main floor of the Liberty Warehouse Apartments in the Central Park District offers locally sourced baked goods and carefully curated coffee beans, notably from their main, small micro-roaster: Valerio Coffee Roasters of Fair Trade. Certainly worth a trip to Foster Street Coffee for a sip!
Thai @ Main Street
With its online countdown and on-street signage displayed this spring, we eagerly anticipated this spot opening just steps from the Visitor Info Center. Expect traditional Thai fare at Thai @ Main Street, with pad thai dishes and dumplings for main courses and perhaps fried bananas for dessert. All of these delectable offerings are served in a newly renovated space where Dame’s Chicken and Waffles used to be.
Durham tends to sweep visitors off their feet, but you could literally get swept off of yours at the new Durham Ballroom. Presented by the Living Arts Collective, the Durham Ballroom is host to all types of celebratory events, right in the heart of the booming Geer Street neighborhood.
Also called Rodeo Space, Space NightClub is a new nightlife venue receiving rave reviews on social media. Its sound systems, lighting, and VIP areas create a great atmosphere for late night entertainment! The space is available for rent and is often host to live music acts. The venue is certainly worth checking out if you’re into dancing the night away!
A collaborative art and design studio and gallery with creative, whimsy, and culturally curated exhibits, The 584 is a shared space developed by artist Michelle Gonzalez-Green that will undoubtedly attract a unique offering of creative art, conversations, and connections between an eclectic group of local artists.
