2017 was a banner year for Durham social media. We shared more of Durham than ever before and the Bull City responded in a huge way. Let's take a look back on the year that was.
Welcome to Durham
We launched our “Welcome to Durham” video to great success. With over 390,000 views many comments noted how there was finally a video that showed “the real Durham.”
We take pride in making sure that Durham, NC is a place where everyone feels welcome. That's why helped produce this video celebrating the LGBTQ voices of the Bull City. The video also generated thoughtful conversation.
In the alley next to The Durham Hotel, you'll find two Mike Lee creations on the same corner, M Sushi and M Kokko. While M Sushi is more about traditional Japanese sushi, M Kokko is more about fun, experimental Asian-fusion. Their trademark fried chicken sandwich is incredible. Our social media team headed over there to get an insider view into their amazing menu. Their video quickly became one of the most watched Facebook videos in 2017.
2017 saw our first use of Facebook live for the opening of the Unscripted Hotel. We also used to broadcast events such as Bull City Race Fest, Durham’s inaugural marathon, and the Durham Holiday Parade. We also had a chance to give our followers an inside view into some of the Bull city's coolest stores such as Runaway and Everyday Magic.
Durham continues its streak of national media coverage.
Vogue Magazine voted Durham, North Carolina' Hippest city. It becomes one of our most popular tweets ever.
USA Today featured one of our tweets in their story about the counter-protest.
Bon Appétit Magazine featured a three-page article on the Bull City and 13 of our many amazing restaurants—many of which are within walking distance from one another.
Stranger Things Happen in Durham, NC
Our account is now over 20k followers with more than 160k likes in 2017. Our talented graphics and social media team created our first Instagram stories and hosted our first Durham Instagram photo tour. But that wasn't all. They also produced our first-ever animations featuring Stranger Things created by Durham's Duffer Brothers! Play the video below to see a stranger Durham.
Anticipating flurries in Durham we created this animated image. Although we did have a bit of real snow in early December, it's nice to experience it digitally as well.
